"Ecological Water quality assessment of the Alcantara, James and Guadalfeo Rivers using Bioindicators"

The Center for Integrative Mediterranean Studies signed a Bilateral Agreement with  Parco Fluviale dell'Alcantara (November 2009) for CIMS River Research Project entitled "Ecological Water quality assessment of the Alcantara, James and Guadalfeo Rivers using Bioindicators" led by the research collaboration of University of Messina, Universidad de Córdoba and Viginia Commonwealth University Ecology Laboratories.

The strong collaboration, led by Prof. Letterio Guglielmo (UNIME), Prof. Len Smock (VCU), Prof. Don Young (VCU) and Prof. Maria Jose Polo (UCO), has been developing since 2009 through rotative activities with students, faculty and staff mobility from the three partners.

The first phase of CIMS river project was led at University of Messina in 2010: Alcantara study .

During the 1st phase of CIMS River Project at University of Messina, in Castiglione di Sicilia in 2010, a new research activity was proposed dealing with stream hydrology, especially modelling various physical processes within the river hydrological cycle. An UCO doctoral Research student applied for a Grant to visit VCU laboratory for three months. Read Paper published on Ecological Indicators.

The collaborabion among the three partners increased through the establishment of I International Summer School: Biodiversity and Conservation 2011 which took place both at University of Messina and Virginia Commonwealth University.
