The University of Messina (UNIME) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) have established an academic collaboration, according to their Internationalization Strategy, aimed at creating an International Summer School entitled "Clinical Neuroanatomy and Neuroscience" leading three successful editions.

The Italian Minister of Education and Research (MIUR) has funded an innovative didactic project, based on the integration and development of curricula to enhance High Education quality offer, through P.A.C. “Piano di Azione e Coesione” Messaggeri della Conoscenza Programme - Project ID347 to be develop within July 2014.
The "Central Nervous System Injury and Repair" course will focus on basic science and clinical discovery in this area which exacts staggering societal consequences in North America, Europe, and Asia. Specifically, through a series of lectures, workshops, laboratories, and journal club sessions, the students will be exposed to a wide array of contemporary information focusing on traumatic injury to the brain and spinal cord as well as cerebrovascular disease and stroke.
The integrative didactic course will be offered at University of Messina medicine students by John T. Povlishock, Ph.D - Professor and Chair Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology - Director, Commonwealth Center for the Study of Brain Injury and Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Neurotrauma.

I session - Prof. John T. Povlishock (Virginia Commonwealth University) at University of Messina Dipartimento di Scienze Biomediche e delle Immagini Morfologiche e Funzionali (Sbimof) from 16 November to 23 November 2013 for 40 hours front lectures for 30 selected UNIME Medicine students and 20 uditors. The great success of the proposed integrative didactic course has been confirmed by the great number of medicine students applications to attend Prof. John Povlishock (VCU) lectures.

III session - dissemination of the activities done during international mobility at VCU organised by the 4 selected UNIME students at UNIME Department Sbimof.
