The Mediterranean as Screen: Study Cinema in Italy

Noto and Taormina, May 23- June 23, 2011

A new CIMS Programme within Cinema Area

The Programme is open to students of Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Messina and Universidad de Córdoba.

11 students from Virginia Commonwelath University (VCU)  were hosted at C.U.M.O in the City of Noto - Garden of Stone, and UNESCO World heritage site from May 23 to June 23, 2011. The program was held by Dr. Oliver C. Speck of the VCU School of World Studies. His areas of expertise are film studies, especially European Cinema and film theory.

Students had  the opportunity to take one Italian language course at the University of Messina during the program, which may be transferred back to VCU as Italian language credit.

During the eight days of the Taormina Film Festival (June 11-18, 2011) students attended  master classes in English with projection on topics concerning the festival: ?Mediterranean area Cinema: The Maghreb? led by international figures such as Oliver Stone, Patrice Leconte and meeting with Michal Aviad, Jack Black, Monica Bellucci, Moritz Borman, Matthew Modine, Maya Sansa, leila Kilani, Mohamed Diab.
